There are over 600,000 food items in the U.S., and all of them have to be checked by the FDA, the federal agency charged with the task of ensuring that the food we consume is safe. With those figures, that’s a pretty daunting task. No doubt, the FDA does it’s best to protect the public; however, due to the way our food is mass harvested, processed and packaged, certain icky little things get through, and if those icky things are in the amounts set out by the FDA in its handy, dandy Defects Levels Handbook, then you’re ok.
